Day-Mer’s services include assistance with housing needs including support with searching and ensuring tenancies, repairs, advocating tenants’ rights and support with Housing Benefit, Council Tax Credit, Housing Repairs and Social Housing Applications, and other housing related services.

Housing Benefit

Housing benefit is available to those who pay rent and are unemployed, on low income, or in receipt of other welfare benefits. It is currently being replaced by Universal Credit.

Common services Day-Mer provides regarding housing benefits include (but are not limited to) making new applications, reporting a change in circumstance, and dealing with issues such as over or underpayment.

Council Tax Reduction

Council Tax Reduction is a discount available to those on low income, unemployed or in receipt of other benefits. You can apply whether you own or rent your home, but you must be living in the property and it must be your only or main place of residence.

Common services Day-Mer provides regarding housing benefits include making new applications, reporting a change in circumstance, and dealing with issues such as over or underpayment.

Council tax support varies based on your local authority, so you will need to check the specific rules in your area to see what you are entitled to. Day-Mer can help with this, as the application process for each council is different.

The amount of support you receive will be generally based on the following factors:

  • Where you live
  • Your income, savings, and assets
  • The benefits you already receive
  • Then number of children and/or adults living with you
  • The cost of your council tax bill
  • In some cases, you may be eligible for 100% council tax reduction.

You cannot claim council tax reduction if:

  • If you have more than £16,000 in total savings, stocks, shares or other capital

Housing Application Procedures 

Day-Mer is able to assist with all types of housing applications and queries, including: council housing, private housing, renting or property purchasing. We also provide information about and assistance with homelessness, eviction, tenancy agreements, mortgage payments and so on.

Housing Repairs Assistance

Day-Mer is able to assist with resolving housing repair issues, including reporting complaints and booking appointments via phone, email or post. Common issues related to housing repairs include (but are not limited to): damage in your property; leaks; and health and safety concerns such as mould, electrical and gas safety.
