Education Services

Day-Mer Education Services

With Turkish and Kurdish students and young people amongst the lowest educational achiveres in the parts of London they live, a focus of Day-Mer’s work over the last 20 years has been the provision of services responding to the educational needs of the community. The services continue to include Supplementary School sessions to help primary and secondary schools students in key subjects, a homework club, parental empowerment activities as well as regular workshops on aspects of the education system in UK.

Our aim is to help raise the educational standards of primary and secondary school pupils and contribute to their personal, academic and professional development with a view to enable their active participation in local community life.

Day-Mer’s large pool of volunteers and sessional staff include teachers, co-educators, and teaching assistants experienced in working with the target groups in educational settings.

The organisational has a good profile as a community education provider that provides accessible and affordable services. The organisation is networked within the local primary and secondary schools with which it regular engages and provides time-specific activities from its offer. This includes training provided to schools and statutory agencies about the needs and issues of the Turkish/Kurdish pupil group.

Provided as part of community services, the pupils and parents using these education services are also supported through referrals to our advice service, supporting the wellbeing of families which condition the education of their children.
