WE ARE HERE FOR OUR COMMUNITY

Alongside issues due to being from a migrant community, such as legal applications, settlement and uncertainty about the future, migrant workers and labourers continue to face problems of the cost of living crisis, of housing, health, education, work and wages currently shaping life in the country. As social support continues to be pruned, councils are heading towards being unable to provide housing and education services due to slashed budgets and bankruptcies; the health system continues with its collapse and for us this means fewer local GP services, even longer waiting times for hospital appointments and increasing poor health. As if these were not enough, the democratic rights of working people are being further stifled and eroded by increasing racism and reaction: anti-immigrant laws, attempts to deport them to other countries, racist and reactionary rhetoric escalating in the run-up to the upcoming elections are all examples of this. The threat to social and international peace is not only reflected in rising energy bills, but is also fuelling divisions between sectors of society –undermining the unity that native and migrant labourers have been building for decades.

Like many other workers' organisations in the country, Day-Mer continues to work to raise the common struggle of the host and migrant workers around their common issues, while continuing to support community members with the problems they face.

We call on our communities to take ownership of their problems, to strengthen the unity of working people and to support Day-Mer and its work.
